Today I’ve successfully backported the last stable version of Amarok from cooker to Mandriva 2006. You can find the Amarok 1.4.1 RPM packages in my repository.
Beside Amarok, you’ll find there other packages like libvisual v0.4, libgpod v0.3.2 which are required by this latest release of Amarok to work properly.
To install packages from my repository, take a look at my previous posts.
Thank you for you maintaining current Amarok packages for Mandriva 2006!
However, these failed to install for me:
Installation failed: file /usr/share/config/amarokrc from install of amarok-1.4.1-4mdk conflicts with file from package mandriva-kde-config-2006.1-13.1.20060mdkSuggetions for resolving this conflict would be appreciated! Thanks.
When I first try to install these packages, I conflict with
mandriva-kde-config-2006.1, which contains amarokrc as well. I overcame that withurpmi --force, but I got a new error when trying to launch Amarok:I suspect this is because I installed the KDE 3.5 bundle that Mandriva provides. It would be nice if a compatible version could be made to work with this. Thanks!
Cannot select
amarok-1.4.1-4mdk.i586or the beta. This Amarok not work good… in my Mandriva 2006 PP
Amarok work fine, thanks.
With Mandriva 2006.0 PP
Big Sanks!
amaroK Cool!
Respect!
I have a strange problem in 2006 PP — the collection builds but will not save — it always says to build the collection.
Could this be a problem with libsql?
Any other ideas?
Thanks
Doesn’t work for me. I installed it by urpmi but it crashes when I try to listen something :
I would be grateful for any help…
Hello
thanks for 1.4.1.
i installed under MDV 2006 kde 3.4.2
with my previous version 1.3.1 i had no problem with mp2
now with 1.4.1. i have the error message:
no valid plugin
http://www.arteradio.com/sons/04actuvacances_hq_fr.mp3
kaffeine uses also xine nad can read this streaming
Jason,
I had the same problem. The only way I was able to fix it to rename/delete the file, that holds the collection info (amarok’s database):
~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/collection.dbUnfortunately by doing this you will lose some other info about your songs too, e.g.: your play count.
Jason,
I found that the owner of the
~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/folder was root so when logged in as myself amarok couldn’t save the database. So check the permissions.
Sandor – thanks it was only going looking for the .db file that caused me to realise what was going on.

Sorry to be late, I was in holidays last weeks !
About E Ashford problem:
Did you try to uninstall all previous amarok-related packages ?
Did you add official main / contrib Mandriva repository to your local RPM database ? (look at http://easyurpmi.zarb.org and Wikipedia for more info)
EcApS, Xao,
What do you mean by “Mandriva PP” ? What is “PP” flavour of Mandriva I don’t know ?
Jason, Sandor, Rob,
Good job ! But, I still don’t know why this append…
Gajo,
I’ve packages a new version of Amarok (1.4.2-beta1) for Mandriva 2006. Can you tell me if similar problem happend ?
Mark Stosberg, PROMENEUR: your three comments were automaticcaly blacklisted by Akismet. I can’t explain why. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Gajo, look at Mark Stosberg problem: it’s exactly the same as your.
I don’t use KDE 3.5 but the default version that came with the download edition of Mandriva (kde 3.4.2). But I’m curious about those 3.5 RPMs. Where did you find them ? Are there public ? Are there for Mandriva’s club members only ?
PROMENEUR, I also had the problem with all my Flac files with 1.4.1. I explain in a recent post how I fixed this bug.
I have Amarok working now thanks to this page…
Thank you!
regards,
Glenn

Worked guys, thanks — I changed both the permissions and nuked collection.db.
Many thanks!
Hello Kev, thanks a lot for packaging amaroK for Mandriva
I have the same problem as Mark Stosberg :
But I didn’t force the rpm during the install.
And I saved my
.kde/share/apps/amarokfile.I’m using KDE3.5.4 from seerofsouls.com (the rpms are public).
Hi Mimil,
If you use SeerOfSouls RPMs, look at their KDE 3.5.4 repository, there is the amarok-1.4.2-1.beta1 package too.
As you can see, my Amarok RPMs are useless if you use SeerOfSouls. My intention by doing those Amarok packages was to give a way to use the latest version of Amarok for people who want to keep their original KDE version from Mandriva 2006.
I am using Mandriva 2006, free version, with KDE which comes with it. I used URPMI and everything worked fine, No problem. Thank you for this page.
Hi, Kev,
