e107 to WordPress: v0.3 add user import

I’ve finish the third alpha version of my plugin to import e107 websites to WordPress. This version is now able to import the all users and associate each user with their posts.

  1. Hi Kev,
sorry, i had no time to test your script, but soon i will try to do that. You are the best! :)

  2. well, finding this section is making me a very happy man :)

i’m wanting to move out of e107 in the aim of slimming down my operations. e107 and their community is super cool but its a little unwieldy for my current needs.

only thing i’m going to need is to bring a forum full of posts with me and as you’ve said before, your not at that stage yet. i guess that means i’ll watch for a bit in hopefull anticipation, probably going along with whichever forum you choose as i’m no script monkey (see the power you can wield with knowledge!).

vanilla is clearly uber cool, but i’m not sure how tough this is going to be, i found this on the vanillas creators blog:
    http://lussumo.com/docs/doku.php?id=vanilla:integration:wordpress
i also don’t know if the forum is the quickest or cleanest.

anyway, i’m wandering a bit here. long and short is great work and i’m looking forward to seeing how this importer develops to the point where i can use it. if you need any help from a simple button pushing layman, then i’m happy to do whatever i can.

i’d normally just sign as kevin here but thats you, so i’ll be skinny or something :)

  3. Hi everyone.
First run – half of news items failed to import, users failed to import, some problems with images and their bbcode… :D

Lots of fun! My 1000+ news items and 2000+users are killing me.

Will have more results in the evening, i am moving to WP today! ;)

  4. I got error, on importing users:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/andrius/public_html/wp-admin/import/e107.php on line 75

  5. Somewhy script timeouts every time (i tried both with Firefox and IE).
After the timeout some news items duplicate.

  6. I figured out, why posts duplicate, because i am using not localhost, but another database server.
    Think of it people ;)

  7. Hi skinofstars !

For my real world project (coolcavemen.com migration to WordPress), I plan to only migrate users, comments, news and static pages. I’ll let e107 handle the forum, and this as long as I didn’t decided which forum application to use.

I agree with you about Vanilla, which I currently consider as a “not-so-bad” solution. But I still have no strong ideas of which forum will make me happy, so I think it will require me a long time before finding the right one.

Anyway, the forum import feature will not be part of the current WordPress plugin I work on, simply because WordPress has no default built-in forum. Off course, if I need to do such a migration and nothing exist, I will consider to write a new script. But actually it’s too far from now…

  8. certainly appreciate the sentiment with regards to the forum and appreciate you getting back. good luck on stabalising the import, the rest of my admins are happy where we are, so i think we are remaining on e107 for now. who knows what the future will bring though eh? i mean, wordpress is so funky i’m not sure how long the other guys will be able to hang out.

    be cool
    kevin…. err… skin of stars

  9. Hi Kev,
sorry, had no time to report normalu bug, but try not to use localhost while importing, but import from another servers database, it duplicates posts and sometimes even triples. After i used localhost – everything worked OK.

And the same with timeout, if you use not localhost, after couple of minutes IE opens the server not found window (as i remember) and FF opens the download dialog box for downloading admin.php :)

Php error appears anyway, i can`t import users somewhy, i can give you my e107 database example if you want, and you may have a look why error appears.

  10. Hi Andrius !

i can give you my e107 database example if you want, and you may have a look why error appears.

Why not… It will help me to build a sort of test panel to my script.

We should continue our discussion about your database by mail, and I will give you my IM ID. I prefer to poceed this way to not have any public leak of your db (which can contain private informations). Can you contact me by mail ?

  11. Hi Kevin,
maybe you contact me, because i simply can`t find your email anywhere :)

  12. One bug. In my e107 website big part of news is in extend part. (shown after click “read more”), so the extend part not importing..

  13. Hi Antanas.

You’re right, this version of the plugin doesn’t import of the extend part. I add this on my todo list. Thanks for this feature request.
