I’ve changed my backup strategy today, so I updated my website-backup.py script. You can find the latest version of the script on my script page.
I now use rdiff-backup in this script to keep 32 days of incremental backups. Beside this the script do a monthly full archive of the website in bzip2 format. This new strategy has reduced the total size of my backups from 64 GB to 6.7 GB. Roughly 90% of free space gain thanks to rdiff-backup ! If rdiff-backup is so efficient in my case, this is due to the existence on my websites of large files that are rarely modified (Mp3s, Flacs, RPMs, images, etc…).
Hello,
I’m new in using linux, and i was looking for a script what do exactely what your script does… So i tried it on a little part of a ftp server (a simple directory with 3 files in) and the results was good. So i tried it with a more complex ftp site (lots of directory et sub directory, about 200Mo of data) and unfortunately this test was not successfull and i dont exactely why
I really need help.. How can i run the script in debug mode ?
Thanks
Hi sacha,
I’ve added a new debug mode in the last version of my script. By running the script with
--debugparameter, it will print all the system commands it try to launch. This, I hope, will help you solve the problem.Hello Kev,
Thanks a lot for this debug mode, now i use your script for all my website backup with an addon for doing mysqldump…
Hope to see your next release with logs and email.
Wish you an happy new year and merry chritmas, full of linux and python
.
Thanks again
Excellent script, thanks a lot for making it!

Héhé ! Oui je suis français ! Mais je suis localisé, comme le groupe Cool Cavemen, sur Lille. Cool Cavemen sur téléGrenoble c’est un concours de circonstance, grâce à nos amis de KesSkipass, que je salut au passage !
